PA Power O is a play-action shot play out of the I Form Pro 21 personnel that sells the Power O run fake before attacking downfield. Off the play fake, the backside receiver runs a corner route breaking outside up the numbers while the slot runs a deep post that crosses the field toward the corner's landing spot, creating a natural clear out and man beater combo. The X receiver on the near side runs a short out or flat route that sits underneath as a checkdown, giving the quarterback a three level read from deep corner to crossing post to short flat.
Key the strong side linebacker and safety flow at the snap, if they bite hard on the run fake the post route will be wide open behind them. Watch for a robber or lurk defender sitting in the middle of the field, this can undercut the post route against zone drops. Identify man coverage by checking if the corner mirrors the outside receiver step for step presnap, this confirms the corner route win versus off man or press man. Cover 2 shells with two deep safeties can squeeze the corner route, so be ready to work the post or check down to the flat if the safety rotates over the top. Blitz heavy fronts that bring extra rushers will test your play-action fake timing, so recognize hot pressure quickly and get the ball out to the flat route as a built-in answer.
Run this on early downs like first or second and medium to keep the defense honest against your Power O run game.
Check pre-snap for single high safety looks since the post route will split the middle of the field against Cover 3 or Cover 1.
If you see two deep safeties presnap, prioritize the corner route because Cover 4 or Cover 2 shells often leave the flat defender exposed underneath.
Use hot routes to convert the flat route into a deeper option route if you anticipate man coverage and need a rhythm throw versus a blitz.
Pair this play in your call sheet with base Power O and HB Blast Alert Z Lookie to keep linebackers stepping up on run fakes before you hit them with this shot play.
