FB Dive Fake HB is a run play out of the I Form Pro 21 personnel that sells a fake to the HB before handing the ball to the FB on a quick interior dive. The diagram shows the FB taking a hard downhill path through the middle of the line while the HB motion arrow fakes away to the backside, pulling flow away from the actual point of attack. The offensive line blocks straight ahead with base double teams at the point of attack, and the primary read is the play side gap between the guard and center, reading the first level defender for daylight before working to the second level if the hole is clogged.

Defensive Reads

Watch for linebacker eye discipline before the snap, if the Mike and Will are keying the HB motion instead of squaring up on the FB, this play hits for solid yardage. This is a strong counter against overaggressive user linebacker blitzes that flow hard to the HB side since it attacks downhill before they can redirect. Usage Tips

Use this play on early downs when the defense has shown a tendency to fly to the HB on run fakes, especially against aggressive linebacker flow. Key on linebacker depth pre-snap, if the Mike and Will are sitting shallow and reading the backfield, this dive hits fast before they can diagnose. Pair this with HB Blast and HB Iso earlier in a drive so the defense keys HB run action, then call this to catch overplayed linebackers cheating toward the halfback fake. Avoid calling this against stacked fronts with extra bodies in the box since the FB has minimal room to create on his own. Sprinkle this in on second and short to stay ahead of the chains without exposing your HB to unnecessary hits.
