Breakdown

Mtn Slip Screen is a slip screen concept out of the I Form Pro 21 personnel that sends the HB motioning out wide pre-snap before the offense shows a play action look up top. Post-snap, the offense releases two vertical routes (the corner and the seam/out breaker) to occupy the deep defenders while the HB slips out to the flat behind a screen wall, and the FB runs a shallow drag underneath as a checkdown outlet. This is a screen pass designed to beat aggressive man and blitz-heavy looks, with the primary read being the HB slip screen first, working down to the FB drag if the screen is not there.

Defensive Reads

Cover 0 and Cover 1 man blitz packages are the biggest weakness for this concept since the screen blockers get a clean release the instant defenders bite on the vertical routes or blitz off the edge Watch for a spy linebacker or a user-controlled defender sitting in the shallow flat, a disciplined lurk defender can jump the HB slip screen route and turn it into a turnover Zone shells like Cover 3 or Cover 4 with disciplined underneath defenders can sit on the screen and blow it up before the blockers set the wall, so respect zone drops over the middle Pre-snap, check safety depth and cornerback press alignment, if corners are pressing at the line and safeties are rotating down into the box that signals man coverage and green light for the screen Post-snap, key on defensive end and outside linebacker contain, if they crash hard upfield on the play action fake they open the exact alley the HB needs for the slip screen to hit big

Usage Tips

Motion the HB before the snap and watch how the defense reacts, if a linebacker or safety follows the motion man across the formation you are likely facing man coverage and the screen has a lane to develop

Use this play on early downs or in obvious blitz downs like 3rd and long when the defense is selling out with a nano blitz or overload pressure package

Let the screen blockers set up before throwing, do not rush the throw to the HB, patience lets the wall form and turns this into a big gain versus aggressive pass rush

Hot route the FB drag into a quicker option if you see zone coverage sitting underneath, since the vertical routes up top will hold safeties and linebackers just long enough

Pair this with HB Slip Screen and PA FB Screen in your play-calling sequence so the defense cannot key on one screen tempo, then mix in PA Power O or HB Counter Str to keep the defense honest against your run game
