Breakdown

End Around out of I Form Pro 21 personnel is a trick run play designed to get the ball to the WR on a jet style reverse action across the formation. At the snap the receiver motions/runs behind the line from the backside all the way to the strong side edge while the line executes down blocks and the backfield flow sells the initial handoff action to hold the linebackers. This is a gap exploit run play, not a man or zone beater in the passing sense, and the primary read is simply getting width and reading the edge blocker's kick out before turning upfield off the alley defender.

Defensive Reads

Watch for user controlled defenders spying the backfield instead of respecting their zone or gap assignment since that is the main counter to End Around Check if the defensive ends and outside linebackers maintain contain discipline instead of crashing down on the initial fake Look for a fast flowing linebacker who can read through the line and chase the ball across the formation before it gets to the edge Identify if the defense is in a run blitz or gap exchange front, since disciplined edge defenders staying home will blow this play up immediately Man coverage on the outside can leave the corner without run support, so check if the corner is squeezed inside or sitting wide to take away the edge lane

Usage Tips

Call this on early downs or in short yardage when the defense has shown aggressive downhill run fits or a heavy blitz look on previous snaps

Use pre-snap motion or a hard count to see if linebackers flow with the fake handoff action, which tells you if they are keying the backfield rather than the edge

Mix this in after running HB Toss, HB Stretch, or Power O so the linebackers are conditioned to attack downhill and get gashed by the reverse action

Avoid calling this against defenses that show contain discipline or have a fast flowing Mike linebacker who can chase the edge

Sequence this with HB Counter Str or HB Misdirection in the same drive to keep defenders guessing on backfield direction
