Slant And Go's out of the I Form Pro 21 personnel is a classic double move man beater built around sluggo (slant and go) routes from the outside receivers. The concept is designed to bait aggressive corners into jumping the underneath slant, then attack over the top with the vertical release, while underneath crossers or flat routes from the TE and backs occupy linebackers and hold the middle of the field. Your primary read progression starts outside with the sluggo receiver against man coverage, then works back to any check down or underneath option if the corner sits back and refuses to bite.
Read the cornerback depth and hips at the snap, if he jumps the slant break hard and turns his hips inside, the go route behind him is wide open for an explosive gain. Watch for a deep half or deep third safety rotating over the top in Cover 2 or Cover 3 shells, since that extra defender can erase the vertical shot even if the corner bites on the double move. Identify user controlled lurk defenders sitting in shallow zones, as a smart human defender may sit and read the quarterback's eyes instead of biting on the slant fake. Check linebacker depth before the snap, shallow linebackers signal man coverage or a blitz package, while deep linebacker drops suggest zone and a lurking threat underneath. This play struggles against Cover 4 or quarters shells with disciplined corners who play the double move patiently, so avoid calling it into those looks and instead attack with quick game concepts.
Use this play against defenses showing man coverage indicators pre-snap, especially press man or Cover 1 and Cover 0 looks with corners lined up tight on your outside receivers.
Send a receiver in motion pre-snap to confirm man coverage before the snap, if the defender follows across the formation you know you have a green light to attack the sluggo.
Hot route your inside options into quick hitters like a slant or drag if you diagnose zone coverage, since the double move loses value against defenders sitting in their zone drops.
Pair this play with Quick Slants or Curls earlier in a series so defenders start jumping underneath routes, then hit them with Slant And Go's to punish that aggressive tendency.
Best called on second or third and medium to long, giving the double move enough time to develop and the quarterback a clean pocket to let the vertical route stack the corner.
