26 Duo Alert X Lookie is a Duo blocking scheme run play out of I Form 21 personnel that gives you a pre-snap alert to check into an X Lookie route if you spot a favorable coverage look. The Duo concept uses double team blocks at the point of attack from the guards and center with the FB and HB reading the double teams to press one gap before bending to daylight, making it a downhill power run designed to get north south yardage between the tackles. The primary read is the frontside double team, if the defensive line gets pushed vertically the HB should press hard and cut off the double team, but if the Alert is checked to X Lookie your first read shifts to the X receiver on his quick pivot route against man coverage.
Defensive Reads
Check the linebacker depth before the snap, if they are stacked tight behind the double teams the Duo run will have less room to bend backside Watch for a safety creeping down into the box pre-snap, that indicates run support and is your signal to check to X Lookie instead of handing it off Post-snap, key the playside defensive tackle, if he gets doubled and driven off the ball the HB should press downhill immediately If you check to Lookie, read the corner leverage, inside leverage means break the pivot route outside, outside leverage means settle it in tighter Beware of user controlled linebackers flowing hard to the play side gap, that flow can be exploited by bending the run back opposite the double team once you commit to the handoff
Usage Tips
Use the Alert pre-snap to scout the defense, if you see a stacked box with 8 in the box check to X Lookie to punish aggressive run defense with a quick pass
Duo runs best against odd fronts and 4-3 base looks where the double teams can climb to the second level linebackers cleanly
If the corner is playing off man coverage on the X receiver, checking to Lookie gives you a free access route with a built in pivot to shake the defender
