Outs out of the I Form Pro 21 personnel is a full route progression built around three out cuts breaking to the sideline at different depths, designed to attack the boundary against man and off man coverage. The FB and HB stay in on protection or check into the flat depending on the blitz, giving the quarterback a clean five step drop behind a two back protection scheme. This is primarily a man beater because the hard breaking out cuts create separation against trail technique, though it can stress zone shells if the underneath defenders sit too far inside. The primary read progression starts with the shortest out route to the flat, moves to the intermediate out at ten to twelve yards, and finishes with the deepest out or the backside route if the defense rolls coverage away from the call side.

Defensive Reads

Watch the flat defender at the snap, if he sinks with the deepest out route the shallow out is wide open for an easy pitch and catch. Key the cornerback's leverage pre-snap, outside leverage invites the out cut to break open immediately while inside leverage means the quarterback should expect a contested catch on the sideline. Identify Cover 3 or Cover 4 shells since the flat defender and the underneath zone defender can squeeze the out routes if they read the quarterback's eyes, making the deep out or backside route the better answer. This play struggles against a hard corner blitz or nano blitz off the edge since the protection with only the FB and HB can get overwhelmed, so be ready to check to a quick flat or throw it away. Look for user controlled lurk defenders sitting in the intermediate zone, if the user jumps the middle out route immediately reset to the shallow flat option before the throwing window closes.

Usage Tips

Check the cornerback depth before the snap, if you see press or tight man alignment on the outside receivers this play wins quickly on the intermediate out. Use your hot route menu to convert the shallow out into a quick flat route if you diagnose a blitz, this keeps the FB or HB available as a checkdown against pressure. Attack the boundary side of the field on third and medium since the out breaks give the quarterback a high percentage completion window before the sideline. Pair this play with HB Stretch Alert X Lookie or PA Boot in your call sheet so the defense has to respect both the run action and the quick passing game from the same personnel look. If the defense shows a two high shell pre-snap, target the deepest out route since safeties rotating late often leave a passing lane on the sideline before the corner can undercut it.
