Breakdown

Corner Strike out of I Form Pro (21 personnel) is a full-flood passing concept designed to stretch one side of the field vertically and horizontally. The outside receiver runs the namesake corner route to clear the deep third, the inside receiver from that side works an out breaking route to the flat underneath it, and on the backside the receiver runs a dig that settles into the middle of the field while the other X breaks an out route from a stack release. With three levels attacked on the strong side and a shallow crosser type out route on the weak side, this is a zone beater built to attack Cover 3 and Cover 2 shells by putting a defender in a horizontal and vertical bind. Primary read progression starts with the corner route for the deep shot, works down to the flat route underneath it if the corner is capped, and comes back to the backside dig or out as the checkdown against tighter coverage.

Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, identify single high versus two high shells, a two high shell with corners playing off suggests Cover 2 or Cover 4 which can squeeze the corner route into the safety Watch linebacker depth at the snap, if the strong side linebacker widens quickly to the flat route he is taking away the underneath option and inviting the corner throw Man coverage with press corners is vulnerable here since the corner route can win one on one against outside leverage, look for blitz packages that bring extra rushers since the deep developing corner route needs time Lurk defenders sitting in the intermediate zone can jump the flat route if the quarterback stares it down too long, so disguise eyes by looking off toward the backside dig first Cover 3 sky or buzz variations with a robber defender crashing down can undercut the flat route and the backside dig simultaneously, if you see this rotation post snap, come back to the corner route as the true answer against the vacated deep third

Usage Tips

Use this on second and long or third and medium when you need to stress a single side of the field with a high low read

Check the safety alignment pre-snap, if you see a single high safety shaded toward the corner route side, expect Cover 3 and prioritize the flat route sitting underneath the clear out

Hot route the backside dig into a deeper drag if you are getting jumped by underneath zone defenders, this keeps a friendly outlet away from the flooded side

Pair this play with HB Stretch Alert X Lookie or PA Sprint HB Flat earlier in a series so the defense respects the run and the flat action, then hit them with the corner shot off similar formation tendencies

Snap count and route timing matter here, hold the corner route defender with your eyes on the initial read before working down to the flat, rushing the progression leads to costly interceptions against zone drops
