Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, check linebacker depth: stacked or crashing linebackers signal a run blitz that Duo's double teams are designed to absorb, so trust the scheme and stay patient. Watch the defensive tackle alignment inside the guards; a 1-tech or 2i alignment tells you which double team will win first and dictates your initial aiming point. Post-snap, key the play-side linebacker's fill angle. If he overruns the double team, cut off the FB's block into the alley behind him. This play struggles against gap-exchange stunts and 46 style overload fronts where extra defenders crash the mesh point before the double teams can seal, so avoid calling it into shown blitz with no safety help. If the safety rotates down into the box pre-snap, expect an 8-man front; be ready to check to a play-action or perimeter run instead of forcing Duo into a loaded box.

Usage Tips

Use 26 Duo on early downs (first and ten or second and short) when you want to establish tempo and bait the defense into stacking the box.

Check the defensive front pre-snap: if you see a 4-3 or 3-4 base front with linebackers at normal depth, this play thrives because the double teams can climb to the second level before the backers diagnose the run.

If the defense shows a heavy box with 8 or more defenders, audible out to a play-action shot like PA Power O or PA Draw Shot off the same personnel to punish overaggressive run fits.

Pair 26 Duo with HB Counter Str or HB Counter Wk in your play-calling sequence so the defense has to respect both downhill and misdirection tendencies from the same I Form Pro look.

Manually control the FB after the snap to help steer his lead block into the correct gap, especially against odd fronts where the nose tackle can clog the initial double team.
