PA End Around out of I Form Pro (21 personnel) is a play-action shot play disguised behind an end around fake. Post snap, the play sells the jet motion sweep look with the yellow route breaking flat and up the sideline while the FB releases on a corner style route from the backfield straight up the seam vertically as the deep primary target. The X receiver runs a deep vertical route on the far side while the TE and remaining backfield player work short crossing routes underneath as checkdown options, making this a shot play designed to punish aggressive run fits and single high looks. Primary progression starts with the FB seam route as the first read, then works to the X receiver's vertical shot on the opposite side, and checks down to the underneath crossers if both are covered.

Defensive Reads

Watch linebacker depth and flow pre-snap, if they are stacked tight to the line expecting run support, this play will gash them through the vacated seam and flat. Identify single high safety shells (Cover 1, Cover 3) since the deep middle window opens up for the FB seam route once the safety bites on run action. Key the cornerback on the backside X receiver, if he is playing off man or turns his hips to help against the run fake, the deep vertical shot is live. Beware Cover 2 or Cover 4 shells with two deep safeties who stay home, this eliminates the big play shot and forces you into the underneath checkdowns. Look for user controlled linebackers spying the backfield or sitting in the shallow zone, since they can jump the crossing routes and blow up the checkdown reads.

Usage Tips

Call this on early downs (1st and 10, 2nd and short) when the defense has shown heavy run blitz tendencies or aggressive linebacker flow to the play side.

Use pre-snap motion or a hard count to bait linebackers and safeties into committing to the run fake before the FB releases vertically.

If the defense shows single high safety (Cover 1 or Cover 3), prioritize the FB seam route immediately since the middle of the field is often vacated by run support rotation.

Sequence this play after running actual HB Toss, HB Counter Str, or Off Tackle earlier in the game to condition the defense to bite on outside run action.

Hot route the underneath crosser deeper if you are facing zone heavy defenses that sit their linebackers in short passing windows, giving your checkdown more separation.
