This is a pure run play with no pass option, relying on the offensive line blocking down and sealing the inside while the QB and HB stretch the edge to force a numbers conflict. The primary read progression starts with the dive key on the FB dive, then moves to the edge defender for the QB keep or pitch decision, essentially forcing one defender to be wrong on every snap.

Defensive Reads

Look for the defensive end crashing down hard on the FB dive pre-snap alignment, this signals the QB should pull and threaten the edge immediately. Check the outside linebacker or slot corner depth on the edge, if they are sitting outside expecting the pitch, the QB keep up the middle becomes the better option. Watch for a spy or extra defender lurking in the alley post-snap, since user-controlled defenders sitting on the pitch key can blow up the entire option before it stretches the field. Heavy blitz packages with both the DE and OLB crashing simultaneously eliminate all three phases of the option, so respect max pressure looks and consider audibling to a quick pass instead. Man coverage with light boxes is where this play thrives, since defenders locked in coverage cannot help in run support fast enough to stop the option keys.

Usage Tips

Run this out of I Form Pro on early downs when you have a spy free or a light box, since a stacked front kills the option before it develops.

Watch the defensive end and outside linebacker pre-snap to see if they are crashing hard or sitting to read, since aggressive edge defenders get exploited by the pitch phase.

Use manual control on the QB after the snap so you can properly read the dive key and pitch key instead of letting the CPU logic decide, this gives you full control over the option keys.

Pair Tr Option with Midline Triple Lt and HB Blast from the same set to keep the defense guessing between different option looks and interior gap runs.

Best used on second and short or first and ten to keep the defense honest, avoid this on third and long since a blown option read has no answer if the defense sniffs it out early and swarms.
