Play diagram for Goalline Fade from Shotgun Y Trips Wk in Madden 27

Quick Reference

Not in any team playbook.

Breakdown

Goalline Fade lines up out of Shotgun Y Trips Wk with three receivers to one side and a solo X isolated on the backside. The backside X runs a straight fade up the sideline while the trips side clears out with a deep dig from the outside receiver, a corner breaking route from the middle slot, and a shallow crosser underneath from the inside trips receiver. This is a man beater built to win a one-on-one jump ball on the backside fade, with the trips concept occupying underneath and deep zone defenders so the primary read, the isolated fade route, gets a clean look at the boundary corner.

Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, identify whether the defense is in press man or off man on the backside X, tight press with no deep safety help is the green light for the fade throw. Watch for a two high safety shell rotating toward the trips side, this often leaves the fade in a true one-on-one situation with no help. Post-snap, key the backside corner's hips, if he opens up and turns to run with the fade before the ball is thrown, he is in phase and the window shrinks fast. Look for user-controlled defenders sitting in the shallow crossing lane, this route is the first thing sim AI or zone defenders will jump if they read three-step drop actions. Against zone coverage, especially Cover 3 or Cover 4, the deep dig from trips can be a secondary answer if the fade is blanketed and the underneath zone drops open a window behind the linebackers.

Usage Tips

Use this near the goal line or in tight red zone situations where a big body receiver can win a jump ball on the backside fade against a single corner.

Check the backside corner depth before the snap, if he is playing tight man with no safety help over the top this is an automatic throw to the fade.

If the defense shows two high shells or rolls a safety to the trips side, be ready to work the deep dig or the crossing route underneath instead of forcing the fade.

Pair this with Slot Fade or PA Shot Corner earlier in a series so defenders start jumping the fade route, then come back to this exact concept to hit the underneath crosser when they overplay the boundary.

Throw with anticipation on the fade, placing the ball high and to the sideline so only your receiver can make the play on a back shoulder adjustment.
