Stick N Nod is a quick game pass concept out of Shotgun Spread Y-Slot with 11 personnel. The backside receiver runs a vertical nod route that breaks outward, the outside receiver in the stick concept runs a short out breaking route to the flat while the slot runs a stick (sit) route into the middle vacated zone, and the inline TE releases up the seam then bends outward into a corner. The single back stays in to check block, and the flat route from the backfield-area receiver anchors the underside of the concept. This is a classic man and zone beater built for a quick pre-snap read progression: stick sitting behind linebackers first, then the flat route underneath, with the nod and corner routes as vertical answers versus soft coverage.

Usage Tips

Pre-snap, identify if the defense is showing two-high or single-high to decide whether to prioritize the stick or the vertical nod route

Use the stick route as your first read against zone coverage since it settles into the throwing lane behind linebackers and in front of deep defenders

If you see man coverage with no safety help over the slot, hot route the stick into a flat or corner adjustment to create separation against man beaters

This play works best on third and short to third and medium since the stick and flat combo gives a high floor completion with the nod as a big play outlet
