Breakdown

Defensive Reads
Check safety depth pre-snap since two deep safeties usually signal Cover 2 or Cover 4, which invites the stick and nod combo to work underneath. Watch the flat defender at the snap because if he sinks with the corner route he leaves the stick route wide open for an easy completion. Identify man coverage by cornerback alignment on the outside receivers, tight press alignment means the nod route double move should beat a grabby corner. Key the linebacker depth over the slot since a shallow linebacker can jump the stick route and bait a turnover if the quarterback does not see him. Look for blitz packages that bring an extra rusher off the edge since the single running back protection can get overloaded, forcing a quick decision to the stick route.
Usage Tips
Read the flat defender pre-snap to decide whether the stick or nod route will be open first against zone coverage.
Use motion or a quick audible to check into a hot route on the stick receiver if you see a Cover 2 shell rolling hard to that side.
Throw the stick route with anticipation on 3rd and short since the sit route settles quickly against zone drops and beats man coverage with a clean natural pick.
Pair this play with Curls or Y Stick in your call sheet so the defense cannot key on the stick concept every snap, forcing linebackers to respect multiple route depths.
Against aggressive man coverage, prioritize the nod route since the double move at the top of the stem creates separation from press corners.
