PA Comebacks is a play-action pass out of Shotgun Spread Y-Slot that attacks the boundary with two comeback routes stacked on the outside receivers, a deep corner route from the far outside receiver, and a shallow crosser coming underneath from the slot to the opposite flat. The play-action fake to the running back holds linebackers for a beat, opening throwing lanes for the comebacks against off coverage. This is a zone beater designed to exploit cushion given by cornerbacks sitting in zone, with the primary read starting at the near side comeback, working to the corner route deep, and checking down to the crossing route underneath if both are covered.

Defensive Reads

Identify single high safety looks pre-snap since that alignment leaves the deep corner route on an island against man or zone. If the corner route on the far side is open against a single high safety, take that shot early before the pocket collapses from the extra blocking assignment.

Hot route the underneath crosser into a deeper dig if you see zone defenders sinking too far, giving yourself a checkdown with YAC potential.

Pair this play with Curls or Digs H Option earlier in a series to condition the defense into sitting on shorter routes, then hit the comebacks and corner route for explosive gains once they bite.
