Fake Jet HB Seam is a play-action shot play built off the jet sweep fake to sell run action before releasing the HB up the seam. The offensive line executes run blocking steps to hold linebackers and second level defenders, while the fake jet motion pulls flow defenders and safeties toward the perimeter before the HB slips upfield on the seam route. This is a man beater and zone beater hybrid designed to exploit aggressive run fits, and the primary read progression starts with the HB seam as the shot play, working to any underneath crossers or the backside route if the seam window closes.

Defensive Reads

Read the middle linebacker depth pre snap, if he is sitting shallow to defend the run he will not have depth to wall off the seam route. Identify single high versus two high safety shells before the snap, single high man or Cover 3 leaves the seam vulnerable to the free safety needing to cover significant ground. Post snap, key the linebacker flow to the jet motion side, if both linebackers bite on the fake the seam is wide open with no underneath defender to sit in the window. This play struggles against Cover 4 or Cover 2 shells where safeties stay deep and disciplined, since they will not bite on the run fake and can close on the seam route. Watch for a user controlled defender sitting in the middle of the field or lurking in the seam, if you see a human spy the seam window will be tighter and you may need to check down quickly.

Usage Tips

Call this on early downs like first or second and short to medium yardage when the defense expects run based on personnel and formation tendencies.

Watch for safety rotation pre snap, if a safety cheats down into the box to respect the jet sweep or inside zone tendencies from this set, the seam window opens up immediately behind the linebackers.

Use the jet motion to bait linebackers into flowing horizontally, then snap your eyes to the HB seam route the instant the ball is snapped rather than watching the fake.

Sequence this play after establishing Jet Inside Zone or Same Side Zone earlier in the drive so linebackers key run fits hard and bite on the fake, setting up the explosive seam shot.
