Watch linebacker depth at the snap, if they sink hard to take away the shallow crosser, user your deep crosser or corner post since the middle of the field opens up behind them. Key the flow of any user controlled linebacker or safety flying to the shallow drag, since that lurk defender is the biggest threat to this concept and baiting him out of position opens the deep crosser. This concept struggles against a hard inside blitz with man coverage behind it, since the shallow crosser has nowhere to run and the quarterback loses time to progress through the reads. Cover 3 sink defenses with disciplined zone drops can clog the shallow and deep crosser lanes simultaneously, so be ready to check to the outside out routes or corner post against that shell.

Usage Tips

Use pre-snap motion or a hard count to bait linebackers into showing blitz or man coverage before the snap so you know whether to trust the shallow crosser.

Against man coverage, work the shallow crosser first since the natural traffic from the crossing routes creates instant separation for an easy YAC opportunity.

Against zone coverage with linebackers sitting low, progress to the deep crosser sitting down behind the shallow, since it settles in the soft spot of a Tampa 2 or Cover 3 zone.

Use this on early downs to set up explosive shots later, then pair it with Four Verticals or Post Flood Salem out of the same set once the defense starts jumping the shallow route.

This play shines on third and medium since the shallow crosser and deep crosser combo gives you a high and low read that beats both man and zone blitzes with a built in checkdown.
