This is a man beater and zone beater hybrid, and the primary read progression starts with the in route underneath before working up to the up route if the linebacker sinks or the corner sits in a hard press.

Defensive Reads

Watch linebacker depth at the snap, since shallow drops signal zone coverage and open the in route for an easy completion. Identify single high safety looks pre-snap, which often indicate Cover 3 or Cover 1 and make the up route vulnerable to a blown coverage or busted assignment over the top. Key the flat defender's reaction to the in route, because if he sits and jumps the throw you need to already be progressing to the up route. Recognize user controlled lurk defenders sitting in the intermediate middle, since a smart human defender can rob the in route and force a difficult decision to the up route. Beware of Cover 2 shells with deep half safeties, since they can undercut the up route while linebackers still contest the in route, effectively taking away both options if you hesitate.
