Overview

The NFL Live Texans Offense is functionally the same book as its sibling cut, Texans Offense. The two share all 582 plays and differ by zero sets, so the only real distinction is the label on the sheet. If you already run Texans Offense, switching to this cut changes nothing about your call sheet, your audible package, or your formation subs. Pick whichever one your setup defaults to and move on. The choice matters for cosmetics and sorting, not strategy.

What you actually get is a 582 play offensive book built around Shotgun, which accounts for 396 plays (68 percent) spread over 23 sets. That is a huge spread of gun looks, enough that you can build an entire game plan without ever touching an under center formation. Singleback adds 114 plays (20 percent) across 9 sets, which gives you the zone and gap runs, play action shots, and heavy tight end looks that keep a gun heavy attack from becoming one dimensional. The rest is thin by design: I Form at 39 plays (7 percent) across 3 sets, Strong I at 18 plays (3 percent) in 2 sets, Goal Line Offense at 12 plays in a single set, and Hail Mary at 3 plays.

Personnel runs from 10 and 11 in the gun all the way up to 23, 22, and 13 for short yardage and goal line, so you have the subs available to disguise heavy runs and light passes from similar shells. The concept list leans pass first (Play Action, Pass Play, Spot, Flat, Cover 3 Beater) with a real gap run package underneath it (Power, Power Run, Counter, Toss, Dive, Trap). Sample calls like DBL Outs and 0 1 Trap out of the gun, 24 Zone Open from Singleback, Counter Weak from Strong I, FB Dive from the I, and Goal Post out of Hail Mary show the range. This is a spread passing game plan with enough gap scheme run support to close out games from Goal Line Offense.

Scheme Fit

This book wants a quarterback who is comfortable reading a full field from Shotgun with accuracy on quick outs and spot concepts, and enough scrambling ability to punish the extra defender an opponent commits to the run out of your gun sets. Give it a receiving back who can win from the backfield in 10 and 20 personnel, at least two tight ends who can block for the 12, 13, 22, and 23 packages, and offensive linemen with strong run blocking for the Power, Counter, and Trap calls. Pick the NFL Live Texans Offense if you want to operate primarily from spread gun looks with a real Singleback second gear, and you are willing to accept a thin under center and goal line menu in exchange for 23 Shotgun sets worth of variety.

Strengths

  • Twenty three Shotgun sets across 396 plays means you can carry four or five gun formations in your audible package and still have unused looks in reserve, so an opponent who adjusts to one gun set has not solved the other twenty two.
  • Singleback at 114 plays over 9 sets gives you a legitimate second identity: 24 Zone Open and the rest of the Singleback run tree let you play under center against light boxes without leaving the book's core, which a pure spread book cannot do.
  • Personnel ranges from 10 and 20 all the way to 23 and 13, so formation subs let you walk a heavy package onto the field in Goal Line Offense or Strong I and keep a defense in base personnel while you throw Play Action off Counter and Power looks.
  • The concept list covers both Cover 3 Beater and Spot plus Flat, so between hot routing an outside receiver and using motion to identify man or zone pre snap, you have built in answers to the two coverage families you see most in ranked play.
  • Counter Weak from Strong I and FB Dive from I Form give you a lead blocked short yardage answer that a 68 percent Shotgun opponent will not be expecting after twenty straight gun snaps.

Weaknesses

  • At 68 percent Shotgun, your formation tendency is broadcast from the first drive, and a user who sits in nickel and dime against your gun looks is right most of the time without guessing.
  • I Form (39 plays, 3 sets) and Strong I (18 plays, 2 sets) are too thin to build a real under center run game around, so if your gun run concepts stall against edge pressure you do not have a deep heavy package to fall back on.
  • Goal Line Offense is a single set with 12 plays, which is a small menu inside the five yard line and easy for an opponent to memorize after a couple of red zone trips.
  • The play list is pass concept heavy (Play Action, Pass Play, Spot, Flat) relative to the run tree, and Power, Counter, Toss, Dive, and Trap out of the gun struggle against dedicated run commit and pinched fronts.
  • Only 3 Hail Mary plays across 2 sets, including Goal Post, so your end of half and end of game desperation package is thin and predictable.

Usage Tips

Build your primary audible package out of three or four Shotgun sets that share a formation family so motions and hot routes carry over, then fill the last slot with a Singleback set so you can flip to 24 Zone Open on second and short without a full play call reset.

On first and ten, live in Shotgun with 11 and 10 personnel and mix DBL Outs style horizontal concepts with 0 1 Trap so the defense has to defend both a quick game read and an inside gap run from the same look.

On third and two to four, reach for Singleback rather than Shotgun: the 9 Singleback sets keep a tight end attached, which sells run and opens Play Action off the zone action.

Save I Form and Strong I for four minute offense and goal to go setup, and call Counter Weak or FB Dive when the defense has been in nickel for a full series and cannot sub out in time.

Inside the five, go to Goal Line Offense in 23 or 13 personnel, but rotate calls because the single set and 12 plays get read quickly by a user who has seen the package before.
