Smash HB Seam is a Cover 2 beater built around the classic smash concept on one side paired with an HB seam route out of the backfield. The outside receiver runs a hitch or quick out at the sticks while the slot or TE clears vertically to the corner, stretching the flat and deep defenders horizontally, while the HB releases up the seam to attack the middle void between the safeties and linebackers. Against zone the primary read starts with the deep safety over the smash side, then works down to the HB seam if the safety squats on the corner route, and against man coverage the seam becomes a big play answer versus a slower linebacker or safety matched on the back.
