Doubles Y Off is the Shotgun set that takes standard 2x2 spacing and detaches the tight end into the backfield as an off-ball Y, giving you a two by two receiver picture with a movable third option who can align as an H-back, motion across the formation, or release into the flat without ever showing a true attached alignment. Compared to Shotgun Doubles or Doubles Wk, you lose the compressed inline blocker but gain a chess piece the defense has to identify late. That off alignment is what unlocks the entire Mtn (motion) and jet family in this set: Mtn PA Sweep H-Angle, Mtn Orbit PA Spot, Mtn WR Sweep, Jet Touch Pass, and Zone Fake Jet all use pre-snap movement to force the defense to declare man or zone before you ever snap it.
The 11 personnel grouping means you are on the field with your best slot receiver and your most athletic tight end at the same time, which is the matchup engine of the set. Against base defenses you are throwing a receiving tight end at a linebacker on Angle Curls, Slot Option, and HB Seam variations off the fake jet. Against nickel and dime you spread it out and attack with Four Verticals, Verts Out, Vert Comebacks, and Dbl Stop N Go's, using the outside doubles to isolate your X on an island. The Gadget and SLWR tags mean this set expects a slot weapon and a mobile quarterback, and the play list rewards both.
Where Doubles Y Off really separates itself is the RPO and read game layered on top of pass concepts. RPO Peek Slant, RPO Zone Peek, RPO Zone Y Peek, RPO Glance Slant, and RPO Alert Counter Bubble all give you a run action with a built-in throw, and Read Option plus HB Mtn QB Blast keep the quarterback as a live threat in the box count. Add Inside Zone, Counter Y, Jet Inside Zone, and Mtn Orbit Load Option and you have a set that runs a full spread offense out of one alignment without ever tipping run or pass by formation.
Motion the off-ball Y or a slot receiver before every snap to diagnose coverage: travel means man and you go to Slants, Crossers, or Angle Curls, no travel means zone and you go to Flood, Y-sail, or Curl Ohio.
Use the RPO family on second and medium when the defense is showing single high with a stacked box. RPO Zone Y Peek and RPO Glance Slant let you hand off against light coverage or pull the throw when the linebacker triggers downhill.
Against blitz-heavy opponents, block the back and hot route the off-ball Y to a flat or drag out of Four Verticals or Dbl Stop N Go's so you always have a checkdown against man pressure.
Save HB Slip Screen and HB Mtn WR Screen for third down after you have shown deep concepts, since aggressive users chasing the quarterback will vacate the middle and turn the screen into chunk yardage.
In the red zone go to Redzone Scissors, RZ Scissors Salem, and Fade Stop, then mix in HB Mtn QB Blast or Read Option with a mobile quarterback to punish defenses that drop everyone into coverage inside the 10.
