Jet Touch Pass is a quick jet motion play action style throw out of Shotgun Doubles Y Off that gets the ball out of the QB's hands almost instantly. The diagram shows the jet motion man crossing behind the QB and releasing to the flat while a second underneath route crosses in front of the formation, giving the QB a touch pass option to the flat man in stride. There is no deep progression shown here, this is a horizontal stretch concept designed to get yards in space, and the primary read is the jet motion receiver in the flat with the crossing underneath route as a checkdown if the flat is taken away.
Watch the flat defender or cornerback aligned over the jet motion side before the snap, if he stays home in a zone drop rather than chasing motion this play becomes tougher to complete cleanly. Man coverage teams that have a defender trail the jet motion across the field are the easiest matchup for this concept since the touch pass releases before the trailing defender can recover. Zone coverage with a hard flat defender sitting on the route can undercut the touch pass, so user control that flat defender or lurk defender to jump the throw if you are on defense. Blitz packages that send extra rushers off the edge on the jet motion side can beat this play before the QB gets the ball out, so respect contain rushers and edge pressure looks pre-snap. Cover 2 and Cover 3 shells with disciplined underneath zone drops are the primary counter to this concept, look for linebackers sinking into the flat area as a sign the defense is prepared for this route combo.
Use the jet motion pre-snap to identify if the defense flows with the motion, if a defender follows the jet man across the formation you are likely facing man coverage and the touch pass to the flat will be wide open.
This play hits fast so call it on early downs or obvious run downs to keep defenses honest and prevent them from selling out on the run after seeing jet motion.
Pair this with Jet Inside Zone and Jet HB Trap in the same set so the defense has to respect run action off the same jet motion look, making the touch pass a true misdirection weapon.
If the flat defender sits and does not bite on motion, be ready to hot route the underneath crosser into a quick option route to give the QB a faster second read.
Avoid calling this into heavy blitz looks with no flat defender accounted for since the touch pass timing can get disrupted by a fast edge rusher crashing the pocket before the catch point develops.
