Jet Pass Fk Zone is a jet motion play-action style pass out of Shotgun Doubles Y Off that disguises the jet sweep fake before releasing the jet motion man on a wide flat/arrow route to the boundary. The diagram shows the offensive line holding a zone blocking front to protect against the initial flow, while the jet motion receiver sprints across the formation and turns the fake into a route breaking up toward the sideline. This is primarily a zone beater since it attacks the flat and boundary area vacated by zone defenders flowing hard to stop the perceived jet sweep, with the primary read being the jet motion man in the flat as he crosses the formation and climbs upfield.
Key the flow of the linebackers at the snap: if they bite hard on the jet motion fake, the flat route will be uncontested. This play is designed to exploit defenses running Cover 3 or Cover 4 zone shells that ask outside linebackers or slot corners to fill run support first. Man coverage defenses that stay disciplined on the jet motion receiver rather than reacting to run flow can shut this down quickly. Watch for a user-controlled defender sitting outside in the flat, since a smart user can bait the quarterback into an easy pick if he anticipates the route. Blitz packages that send extra rushers off the edge can disrupt the timing of this throw before the jet man completes his transition from motion to route.
Use pre-snap motion to bait linebackers and safeties into flowing hard toward the jet sweep fake before the ball is even snapped.
This play excels on early downs and in run-heavy game states where the defense is primed to sell out against the run.
Watch the second and third level defenders at the snap: if they crash down on the fake, the jet motion man will have a wide open lane in the flat.
Pair this with actual Jet Inside Zone or Fake Jet HB Seam earlier in a series so the defense has already been conditioned to respect the jet action, making Jet Pass Fk Zone hit even harder later.
Avoid calling this against aggressive user defenders who key the jet motion man immediately, since a disciplined defender can sit on the route and jump the throw.
