Mtn Orbit PA Spot uses orbit motion out of the backfield into a play-action fake to sell run action before the QB works a Spot concept to the field. This is a classic Cover 3 beater built to attack the deep third with the corner route while the flat and spot routes hold the underneath defenders, and the primary read progression starts with the corner route against a single high safety, works down to the spot sitting in the hook zone, and checks down to the flat or drag if the corner is capped.
Defensive Reads
Pre-snap, check for a single high safety, which signals Cover 3 or Cover 1 and opens the corner route as the primary window Watch the flat defender post-snap, since if he sinks with the corner route the underneath flat becomes wide open for an easy checkdown Key the hook or curl defender's depth, because if he sits shallow the spot route sitting behind him becomes uncoverable in the soft zone Man coverage shells with press corners can jump the flat and drag routes early, so trips or lurk defenders sitting on the spot route can bait a bad throw Two high safety shells with a deep half rotation squeeze the corner route, so if you see Cover 2 or Cover 4 pre-snap, expect the corner throw to be tightly contested
Usage Tips
Look for single high safety shells pre-snap since the corner route on the flat-corner side is the main window against Cover 3 and Cover 1
Use the orbit motion to identify if the defense follows the motion man across the formation, which tips man coverage before the snap
If the corner is blanketed by a deep third defender who sinks late, work the spot route sitting in the hook zone as your second read

On third and medium, trust the flat route as a quick outlet if the underneath defenders jump the spot route, since the flat is uncovered against most zone drops
