Breakdown

Dbl Stop N Go's is a double move man beater out of Shotgun Doubles Y Off that isolates both outside receivers on stop and go routes designed to bait cornerbacks into jumping the stutter step. The tight end and running back stay in to help protect or run shallow checkdown routes while the outside receivers work vertical double moves against man coverage. The primary read progression starts with the receiver who gets the cleanest release, watch the corner's hips on the stop portion, and if he bites the go route is money over the top, otherwise work back down to the underneath check.

Defensive Reads

Pre snap, check corner alignment, tight press man corners are the ideal target for the double move since they have to commit hard to the stop. Watch safety depth, if both safeties are deep in a two high shell this play struggles because the go route runs into help over the top. Post snap, key the cornerback's footwork on the stop, if his hips turn and he closes fast that is your green light to rip the go route. Beware of user controlled defenders sitting on the double move, if the human user does not bite and stays on top of the route, check down immediately to avoid a pick. Look for zone match coverages like Cover 4 or Cover 6, these shut this play down hard since defenders read the route stem instead of committing to the initial break.

Usage Tips

Use this play when you have already established quick game or stop routes earlier in the drive so the corner is conditioned to jump the short break.

Attack press man or man match coverage since the double move only pays off if the defender commits before the second burst.

Hot route your tight end into a quick out or drag if you see a blitz look, this gives you a checkdown option since both verticals take time to develop.

Best called on 2nd and long or 3rd and long shots when you can eat a sack or throw it away if the double move does not sell.

Pair this with Angle Curls or Slants earlier in a series so the defense sees quick breaking routes on film, then dial up Dbl Stop N Go's to punish overaggressive corners jumping the stop.

Avoid calling this against zone heavy defenses, save it for confirmed man coverage reads.
