PA Jet Sweep from Shotgun Doubles Y Off shows jet motion across the backfield selling the sweep fake while the QB carries out a play action pass off it. Off the fake, the outside receiver on the sweep side runs a deep corner route while the backside receiver runs a deep comeback, and the inside receiver on the near side runs a deep drag to the opposite flat, with the TE working a shallow crosser underneath and the fullback or check-release blocker chipping and releasing into the flat as a safety valve. The primary read progression starts with the corner route off the jet fake, comes back to the deep comeback on the backside if the corner is capped, and settles into the underneath drag and flat route against pressure or a jumped throwing lane, making this a play action shot play that stresses both zone and man coverage vertically while keeping a checkdown alive underneath.
Pre-snap, identify single high versus two high safety alignment, since single high (Cover 1 or Cover 3) leaves the deep corner and comeback routes isolated against man or a lone deep third defender. Watch the linebackers depth and width at the snap, if they crash hard toward the jet motion it confirms run blitz or contain and opens up both verticals immediately. Post-snap, key the flow of the strong safety or overhang defender, if he sprints to the sweep side and abandons his deep responsibility that is the throwing window for the corner route. Zone coverage shells like Cover 3 or Cover 4 with disciplined cornerbacks who stay deep and outside can shut down the corner route, forcing the drag and flat routes underneath. Man coverage with a lurking linebacker or safety in the middle of the field can jump the shallow drag, so be ready to reset to the comeback or corner if that user defender bites on the crosser.
Use this on early downs like first or second and short to medium yardage when the defense has shown run support tendencies against jet motion looks. Watch pre-snap for safeties creeping down or a linebacker cheating outside toward the motion, that is your green light to trust the play action shot. If the corner over the sweep-side receiver bails deep pre-snap into a zone drop, hot route him to a quicker out or hitch to punish soft coverage. Pair this with actual Jet Inside Zone or Read Option from the same set earlier in a series so the defense keys run action and bites, then hit them with this shot play once they overplay the sweep look. On third and long, lean on the backside comeback route since defenders often sink and turn their back to it late in zone drops.
