Play diagram for Corner Strike from Singleback Ace in Madden 27

Quick Reference

Breakdown

Corner Strike is a Singleback Ace 12 personnel pass play built around a corner route from the backside TE that stretches the deep third, paired with dual out routes from both flanks and a checkdown option from the RB releasing up the middle. The two outside receivers run flat/out routes at the sticks while the tight end on the strong side clears vertically before breaking to the corner, creating a natural high low read against zone shells. This is a zone beater at its core, using the corner route to attack the seam between the deep half defender and the flat defender, with the primary read progression starting at the corner route, working down to the outs on the boundary, and checking down to the RB drag underneath.

Defensive Reads

Identify two high safeties pre-snap since that alignment tells you a defender will be sitting in the deep half ready to jump the corner route. Watch the flat defender on the strong side after the snap, if he sinks too deep the RB checkdown or the out route underneath will be wide open. Key the strong side outside linebacker or slot defender for a nano blitz or edge pressure since the corner route takes time to develop and the quarterback needs a clean pocket. Against Cover 3, the deep third defender rotating late is the biggest threat to the corner route, so a quick user lurk from that defender can bait an interception if thrown late. Man coverage with a single high safety is the toughest matchup since the corner has to win a contested catch against a trailing defender with safety help over the top.

Usage Tips

Look pre-snap for two high safeties or a single high shell to determine if the corner route has room to sit down between the numbers. Against Cover 2 or Cover 4, the corner route is your primary and should be thrown with anticipation before the safety can rotate over the top. If the defense shows man coverage, hot route the backside out into a slant or speed out to create separation against a trailing corner. Use this play on second and medium or third and long when you need a route that stresses both underneath zone defenders and deep safeties at once. Pair Corner Strike with PA Post Dig or Z Post Y Out in the same drive to keep defenders honest on the corner breaking route before hitting them with a double move concept.
