WR Screen out of Singleback Ace 12 personnel is a quick-hitting screen pass designed to get a perimeter blocker in space against overpursuing defenses. The outside receiver sits behind a wall of blockers, typically the playside tackle or TE pulling out along with the near WR, while the QB gets the ball out immediately on a quick pump and toss. This is a zone beater at its core since it punishes linebackers and DBs who are flowing hard upfield or dropping into deep zone drops, and the primary read is simply throw to the screen receiver as soon as the blockers are set unless a defender is sitting directly in the throwing lane.

Defensive Reads

Pre snap, identify if the defense is showing a two high shell with soft corners, this is the ideal shell to attack since underneath defenders will be slow to react Watch for a CB playing hard outside leverage or press man, this alignment lets him blow up the screen before blockers get set Post snap, key the playside linebacker's first step, if he flows hard to the run fake or crashes the line of scrimmage the screen lane is wide open Beware of a user controlled safety or slot defender sitting in a lurk technique, this is the number one killer of WR Screen since he can jump the throw for a pick six Zone blitzes and fire zone pressure with contain defenders staying home on the edge will diagnose this quickly, so avoid this call when the defense shows heavy edge pressure with outside contain responsibility

Call this play against aggressive user blitzes and nano blitz packages since the quick throw negates most pressure before it arrives

Check the defensive line width pre snap, if the edge defenders are crashing hard inside or the CB is playing off with outside leverage, the screen lane opens up fast

Hot route the backside receiver on a quick slant or streak to hold safeties and lurking linebackers so they cannot cheat toward the screen side

Use this on early downs or after establishing inside runs like HB Dive or Inside Zone so linebackers are keyed to run fits and bite on the play fake

Pair this with PA Jet Sweep or Jet Sweep to condition the defense to fly outside, then hit WR Screen when they overplay speed in space

Avoid calling this into aggressive man press coverage with a physical jammer CB since the blocking angle gets disrupted before it develops
