Call this on early downs or in obvious pass situations where you can afford the play-action hold, since the fake needs time to freeze linebackers and sell the run threat.

Identify single high safety looks pre-snap. If the safety cheats to one side, throw the post away from that rotation for an explosive gain.

Against man coverage, trust the post to win over the top if your receiver has a clean release, but be ready to check down to the crosser if a corner presses and re-routes the release.

Use hot routes to convert the crosser into a deeper option against zone shells that sit soft underneath, since some zone defenders will sink into passing lanes and take away the shallow crossing window.
