Breakdown

Mtn Choice Wheels lines up out of Shotgun Wing Slot Offset with 12 personnel and shows a double wheel concept stacked with an option route underneath. The two outside receivers both work vertically up the sideline on wheel routes after starting flat, while the inside receiver runs an option route that can settle in or break vertically against zone, and the middle route cuts across the field on a shallow crosser to hold linebackers. This is a man beater built to isolate defenders on the wheel routes down the sideline, with the primary read starting on the option route for a quick answer versus zone before working outside to the wheels if a corner or safety bites on the underneath traffic.

Defensive Reads

Read the corners pre-snap for tight man alignment, which signals the wheel routes will win outside if your receiver gets a clean release Watch for safeties rotating down into the box, since that opens up the option route working underneath before the wheels develop Key on linebacker depth at the snap, deep drops shut off the crossing route while shallow drops open the option route immediately Identify if the defense shows Cover 3 or Cover 4, since the flat defender responsible for the wheel route is the key conflict player to attack Watch for a user controlled defender lurking in the shallow zone, since that player can jump the crosser or option route if you telegraph the throw

Usage Tips

Use this on early downs or second and medium when defenses sit in zone shells and try to squeeze the middle of the field

Check the option route first against zone coverage since it settles into soft spots created by linebacker drops

Motion or shift pre-snap to identify if the defense is playing man, since both wheel routes are designed to torch man coverage on the outside

Take a shot on the wheel route when you see a linebacker or slot corner trying to carry it deep, since the route design gives your receiver a natural speed advantage
