Defensive Reads

Beware of defenses that key jet motion with a spy or scrape exchange technique, this specifically defeats the QB Sweep by having a defender sit and wait for the QB instead of chasing the motion man.

Usage Tips

Use pre-snap motion to identify if the defense shifts a linebacker or safety to follow the jet man, which tips run blitz or man coverage rotation.

Call this on early downs or short yardage (2nd and short, 3rd and 1-2) since the QB run threat forces defenders to respect the edge and opens up cutback lanes.

Sequence this with Jet HB Angle or Fake Jet Scissors so the defense has to honor the same jet motion look before committing to the edge every time.

Hot route the backside TE to a quick chip or stay-in block if you see a wide 9 technique crashing hard, since unblocked edge rushers can blow this up before the QB gets outside.

Avoid calling this against stacked fronts with extra defenders in the box unless you have a spy or lurk threat neutralized, since the numbers advantage disappears against heavy run fits.
