Breakdown

PA Jet Sweep uses jet motion across the formation to sell the sweep fake before the QB pulls it back and rolls off the play action. Off the fake, the offense sends a deep out breaking route to the far boundary, a corner route from the inline TE, and a deep crosser working from the opposite side underneath the corner, while the backside receiver runs a shallow drag that doubles as a checkdown against pressure. This is a play-action shot play built to punish teams that bite on run flow, with the primary read progression starting at the deep out or corner based on the safety rotation, then working down to the deep cross, and finally checking to the drag underneath if the shot routes are covered.

Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, check linebacker depth and alignment, if they are stacked tight to the line anticipating the jet sweep run fit, this play has a strong chance to hit over the top. Identify single high versus two high safety shells before the snap, single high defenses are more vulnerable to the deep out and corner combination since the safety has to cover the middle of the field alone. Post-snap, watch for a user controlled defender sitting the flat or lurking underneath the corner route, that user pull is the biggest threat to the deep out and drag combination. Against aggressive man blitzes, the drag route and shallow crosser become the answer since blitzing corners and linebackers leave natural voids underneath. Zone defenses with disciplined deep quarter or deep third drops that do not bite on the run fake will squeeze the window on the corner and out routes, so be ready to check down to the drag rather than force a throw into a closing window.

Use this from run heavy personnel and early down situations where the defense is keying jet sweep tendencies from film or previous snaps in the drive.

Watch the safeties before the snap, if they crash down hard on run action you have a green light to take the deep out or corner immediately off the play fake.

Pair this with actual Fake Jet HB Wheel, Zone Fake Jet, or Jet Power Read earlier in a drive so the defense has to respect both the run and the play action look off identical motion.

Hot route the backside drag into a deeper dig or spot route against zone shells if you need a more reliable intermediate window versus zone beater coverages like Cover 3 or Cover 4.

Best on second and short to second and medium, and on early first downs when defenders are still keying off the run fit rather than dropping into coverage.
