Overview

Superstar HB Agile is an offensive Superstar archetype playbook built around a back who wins with burst and lateral quickness rather than contact balance, and the 210 play, 7 formation, 20 set layout gives you room to attack from both spread and heavy looks. Shotgun is the backbone at 99 plays (47%) across 7 sets, so nearly half the book is one shift away from a spread run game with a receiving back detached or offset. Singleback follows at 42 plays (20%) across 4 sets, Pistol adds 30 plays (14%) across 3 sets, and I Form contributes 21 plays (10%) across 2 sets. That distribution is the whole pitch: you are not a one dimensional gun book, but you are also not stuck grinding under center.

The concept list tells you how it wants to attack. Power, Power Run, Counter, Toss and Dive cover the run tree from downhill gap schemes to perimeter speed plays, and FB Dive out of both I Form and Goal Line Offense gives you a pure short yardage answer that most spread heavy books simply do not carry. On the pass side you get Play Action, Pass Play, Flat, Spot and a specifically labeled Cover 3 Beater in DBL Post, so the deep shot and the quick underneath answer both exist without leaving your primary personnel. Motion as a listed concept matters more than it looks: it lets you relocate your back or a slot receiver pre snap and force the defense to declare man or zone before you ever hit the snap.

Personnel flexibility is the other selling point. Seven groupings run from 23 (2 RB, 3 TE, 0 WR) and 13 (1 RB, 3 TE, 1 WR) all the way out to 20 (2 RB, 0 TE, 3 WR), with 11, 21, 22 and 12 filling in between. That means you can open a drive in 11 out of Shotgun, punch a goal line score in 23, and never touch the playbook screen if your audible package is set up right. The 6 play Wildcat block is the trump card, appearing in only 15 of the game's 236 playbooks, which makes it a look most opponents have almost no practice defending. You choose Superstar HB Agile over a pure Shotgun spread book because you get the same spread volume plus real under center power, a rare Wildcat wrinkle, and 3 Hail Mary plays for end of half desperation.

Scheme Fit

This playbook wants a genuinely agile back with elite acceleration, agility and juke, plus solid catching and route running, because Toss, Motion and the detached alignments out of 20 and 11 all ask him to win in space or run a route. You also need a fullback and at least two capable tight ends to make the 23, 22 and 13 groupings and the FB Dive calls real, along with pulling guards who can execute Power and Counter. Pick Superstar HB Agile if you like calling from Shotgun by default but refuse to give up your under center short yardage package, and if you are the kind of player who will actually practice the 6 play Wildcat block instead of ignoring it.

Strengths

  • Shotgun's 99 plays across 7 different sets means your primary formation carries enough internal variety that you can build a full audible package inside Shotgun alone and never show the same set twice on a drive, which a 3 or 4 set gun book cannot do.
  • The Wildcat package appears in only 15 of the game's 236 playbooks, so those 6 plays are effectively unscouted for most opponents, and pre snap shifts out of Wildcat pull second level defenders out of position before the ball moves.
  • Real under center power exists here: 21 I Form plays and 9 Goal Line Offense plays with FB Dive available in both give you a short yardage and goal line answer that pure spread books have to fake with QB sneaks.
  • Personnel spans 23 (2 RB, 3 TE, 0 WR) through 20 (2 RB, 0 TE, 3 WR), so formation subs let you put your agile back in a detached alignment out of 20 and 11 and treat him as a receiver against man coverage without a substitution tell.
  • Pistol's 30 plays across 3 sets bridge the gap between Shotgun and under center, keeping run and pass reads identical from the same depth while disguising Counter and Power Run behind a downhill mesh.

Weaknesses

  • At 47% Shotgun, a scouting opponent will play the run fit light and sit in Cover 3 or Cover 4 against your gun sets, and with only one listed Cover 3 Beater concept (DBL Post) your named zone answers are thin.
  • Hail Mary is only 3 plays across 2 sets, so end of game and end of half situations give you almost no variation and a user defender can pattern match your one deep look immediately.
  • Wildcat is only 6 plays total, so once an opponent sees the formation twice they have seen most of it, and the package cannot carry a drive on its own.
  • The run concept list leans gap and perimeter (Power, Power Run, Counter, Toss, Dive) with no listed outside zone or stretch family, which means an opponent who sets edges hard and crashes gap defenders takes away a large share of your run tree at once.
  • Goal Line Offense is a single set with 9 plays, and with FB Dive as the marquee call there, a committed goal line user can pinch the interior and force you into a low percentage fade you did not plan for.

Usage Tips

Build your main audible package entirely out of Shotgun since it holds 99 plays across 7 sets, and set your four audibles as a gap run (Power), a Flat concept, a Spot concept and DBL Post so you have a run, a quick man beater, a zone beater and a shot from one screen on every down.

Use Pistol's 3 sets on second and medium between 4 and 7 yards, where Counter and Power Run look identical to the play action pass out of the same depth and force the defense to commit a linebacker before the read.

Save I Form and Goal Line Offense for third and short and anything inside the 3, and call FB Dive out of the heavier grouping (23 with 2 RB, 3 TE, 0 WR) rather than trying to convert short yardage out of your Shotgun sets.

Deploy Wildcat no more than twice per game and preferably on first down in the middle of the field, since it appears in only 15 of 236 playbooks and its value is entirely surprise rather than volume.

Lean on the Motion concept out of 20 (2 RB, 0 TE, 3 WR) and 11 to relocate your agile back pre snap: if a defender travels with him you have man and can go to Toss or a Flat route away from the rotation, and if nobody follows you attack the vacated zone.
