Defensive Reads
Watch the linebacker flow after the jet motion crosses the formation, if they overpursue to the motion side you can cut back against the grain for a big gain. Check safety depth before the snap, a single high safety cheating down into the box signals run support and means you should be ready to bounce outside quickly. Cover 3 and Cover 1 shells with aggressive linebackers are the easiest to gash with this zone run since the second level flows hard to the play call. Beware of a Bear front or heavy inside blitz package that stacks extra defenders in the A and B gaps, since that can blow up the frontside double team before the back gets to the line. If the defense shows a user controlled linebacker sitting still and reading the mesh point instead of flowing, expect a spy or scrape exchange designed to take away the cutback lane.
Usage Tips
Use the jet motion pre-snap to identify if the defense shifts a linebacker or safety to follow the motion man, which tells you if you are getting man or zone coverage behind the front. If the box shows six or fewer defenders after motion, this is a green light run versus base fronts and even fronts. Hot route the fullback or H-back to a lead block if you are facing a heavy blitz look to protect the frontside gap. Run this on early downs, first and second and short, to keep the defense honest and stay balanced with your play action shots. Pair this with Zone Fake Jet or PA Jet Sweep from the same set so the defense has to respect the jet motion as a real threat every snap, setting up explosive shots off the same look.
