Inside Zone Split(no Motion) is a two back inside zone run out of the Shotgun Wing Slot Offset formation with 12 personnel on the field. The offensive line executes standard zone steps to the play side while the fullback or offset H-back arc releases or kicks out the edge defender depending on the front, giving the running back a true zone read with cutback potential. This is a run play designed to attack light boxes and gap exchange fronts, with the primary read starting at the play side double team and progressing to the backside cutback lane if the front flows too hard.
Look for linebacker depth and shade pre-snap, since linebackers cheating downhill or walked up into the A or B gap signal a run blitz that this zone scheme can still handle with proper cutback vision. Identify one high safety shells since a single high safety often means an extra run defender in the box, which slows this play down against stacked fronts. Watch for the play side defensive end squeezing hard down the line, which should trigger a bounce read to the perimeter instead of a hard downhill hit. User linebackers flowing too fast to the play side create the cutback lane, so key the backside linebacker's pursuit angle after the snap. This play struggles against gap exchange stunts and heavy blitz packages that fill the backside A gap immediately, so avoid calling it against defenses showing exotic pressure looks pre-snap.
Check the box count before the snap and only run this into 6 or fewer defenders in the box to avoid a numbers disadvantage.
Use the B button or equivalent to manually hit the cutback lane if you see backside pursuit flowing too fast, since this zone scheme rewards patience over pure speed.
Pair this with Inside Zone and Duo from the same set to keep defenders honest on run fits before hitting them with Dbl Mtn Split Zone or Cheat Inside Zone as a change up look.
Run this on early downs, especially first and ten or second and short, to stay ahead of the chains and set up play action shots off the same look.
If the defense is stacking the box pre-snap, check into RPO Alert Bubble or RPO Zone Alert Bubble from the same set to make them pay for overcommitting.
