Defensive Reads

Watch the flat defender assignment on the TE side, as a user-controlled linebacker sitting low can jump the out route and bait the QB into a pick. Man coverage with inside leverage cornerbacks struggles against the pivot break since the route stems vertical before snapping back outside. Blitz packages that bring extra pressure off the edge can disrupt this play since the pivot routes take time to develop, so check protection against six man rushes and be ready to check down.
Usage Tips
Use this on second and medium to second and long when defenses are likely to sit in zone shells like Cover 3 or Cover 4.
Pre-snap, identify whether the corner over your right side receiver is playing off or press, since the corner route only wins clean against off coverage or a two deep shell.
Hot route the TE flat route into a quick option or check it down early against Cover 2 cloud looks where the flat defender sits low.
Pair this with Double Cross or Mesh Spot in your play-calling sequence so defenses that key on the pivot concept get hit by crossing routes instead.
Take advantage of the pivot routes against zone defenders who bail deep at the snap, since the sit-down break creates natural separation in the underneath void.
