Jet HB Duo lines up out of Shotgun Wing Slot Offset with 12 personnel and uses jet motion across the formation before the snap to get the defense flowing laterally. At the snap the offensive line executes a Duo blocking scheme, double teaming at the point of attack and climbing to the second level to seal off linebackers, while the HB reads the double teams and picks his lane downhill. This is a power run play designed to punish teams that overreact to jet motion or crash their linebackers on run flow, not a pass concept, so there is no route progression, only the RB run read off the double team leverage.
Pre-snap, identify if the defense is aligned in an odd or even front, since Duo blocking is most effective against even fronts with clear double team assignments. Watch linebacker depth before the snap, if they are creeping up to jump the jet motion or the run gap, this play can gash them once the double teams get movement. Post-snap, key the play side defensive tackle and end, if they get pushed off the ball by the double team, the cutback lane opens up for a big gain. Defenses that scrape hard flow to the jet motion side with linebackers can be beaten by the natural cutback design of Duo blocking. This play struggles against gap exchange run blitzes and heavy fronts that get penetration before the double teams can seal, so be ready to check out of it if you see a run blitz alignment pre-snap.
Use the jet motion to check if the defense is playing man or zone before the snap, since man coverage defenders will follow the motion man across the formation and zone defenders will pass him off.
This play thrives on early downs like 1st and 10 or 2nd and short when defenses are not expecting a between the tackles run out of a spread shotgun look.
If the defense shows a stacked box or walks a linebacker down into the A gap pre-snap, consider audibling to Inside Zone or Outside Zone from this same set instead of forcing the Duo run into extra defenders.
Pair Jet HB Duo with Jet Touch Pass and Fake Jet HB Wheel in the same drive so the defense has to respect both the jet sweep action and the play action off it, opening natural cutback lanes for Duo.
Watch the double team blocks up front, the HB should press the initial hole and let the double team push the defender before deciding to cut back, do not rush the read.
