Overview

The Vikings Offense playbook and its sibling cut, NFL Live Vikings Offense, are functionally the same book. They share all 608 plays and differ by zero sets, so there is no hidden formation or exclusive concept sitting on one side of the split. Pick whichever one your menu surfaces first and spend your prep time on audible packages instead of comparing the two.

What you actually get is a large book (608 plays across 8 formations and 45 sets, bigger than 79% of the game's offensive team playbooks) that is overwhelmingly a Shotgun operation. Shotgun accounts for 369 plays across 24 sets, which is 61% of everything here, and Singleback adds another 141 plays across 10 sets. That 84% combination means your core game plan lives in 11 and 12 personnel, with 10 personnel available when you want four receivers and no tight end blocking surface. The concept list leans on Pass Play and Play Action alongside Power, Power Run, Counter, Toss and Dive, so the run game is gap scheme first rather than a pure zone read book.

Under center weight exists but it is thin and specialized: I Form (29 plays, 3 sets), Weak I (24 plays, 3 sets), Strong I (15 plays, 1 set) and Goal Line Offense (12 plays, 1 set) give you FB Dive, Counter Weak and 23 or 22 personnel looks for short yardage and clock work. Pistol is a single set with 15 plays, so treat it as a change-up rather than a package. Hail Mary's 3 plays across 2 sets, including Goal Post, are pure end of half insurance. The game plan this supports is spread the field, win from Shotgun sets like the ones housing 94 Will and Corner Post, then shrink the formation to Singleback and I Form when you are protecting a lead.

Scheme Fit

The Vikings Offense wants a quarterback who is accurate from the pocket and comfortable reading full field concepts, because 61% of the book is Shotgun dropback and Play Action rather than scripted option runs. A back with real vision for gap scheme (Power, Counter, Toss) matters more than pure elusiveness, and you need at least two separation receivers plus a tight end who can both block in Singleback 12 personnel and run the seam. Pick this book if you want to live in spread Shotgun looks, run a large 608 play library with deep Shotgun variety, and only occasionally shrink to I Form or Goal Line Offense to close out a game.

Strengths

  • Shotgun's 369 plays across 24 sets means you can build an entire audible package without ever leaving the formation, so opponents get no pre-snap tell from your personnel and you keep Corner Post style vertical concepts and 94 Will man beaters one audible apart.
  • Twenty four Shotgun sets is enough variety to run the same route combo from three different alignments, which lets you motion a receiver across, check the defender who follows, and then hot route into the open leverage from a look the opponent has already seen.
  • Singleback's 141 plays across 10 sets pairs with the Shotgun core as a true second gear: you keep 11 and 12 personnel on the field, get downhill gap runs like 26 Duo and 0 1 Trap, and run Play Action off them without a substitution that telegraphs intent.
  • The Power, Power Run, Counter and Toss concept mix gives you pulling linemen instead of just zone reads, which is what beats the interior nano blitz pressure that stalls a zone heavy book.
  • Goal Line Offense plus Strong I, Weak I and I Form deliver 23, 22 and 21 personnel with FB Dive and Counter Weak, so a book that spends 61% of its plays in Shotgun still has a legitimate short yardage and four minute answer.

Weaknesses

  • At 61% Shotgun, a prepared opponent can sit in their nickel or dime shell almost the entire game and rarely gets punished for staying light in the box.
  • Under center run volume is genuinely thin: I Form, Weak I and Strong I combine for only 68 plays across 7 sets, so your heavy personnel looks repeat quickly and become predictable in four minute situations.
  • Pistol is a single set with 15 plays, which is not enough to build a real read option or RPO flavored package, so you lose that entire pre-snap disguise layer other books use.
  • Strong I and Goal Line Offense each have only one set, meaning your goal line and heaviest formations offer no alignment variety and no way to shift into a different look from the same personnel.
  • The concept list is pass and gap run heavy with limited zone run identity, so defenses that user a linebacker over the pulling guard can sit on Power, Counter and Trap and force you back into Shotgun dropback passing.

Usage Tips

Anchor your audible package in three or four Shotgun sets and treat them as your first and second down base, since 24 sets and 369 plays give you every Flat, Spot and Cover 3 Beater answer you need without a personnel change.

Use Singleback on early down runs and Play Action off them, especially the sets housing 26 Duo and 0 1 Trap, so your heaviest play action shots come out of the same look as your inside run game.

Save I Form and Weak I for third and one to third and three and four minute drives, leaning on FB Dive and Counter Weak, because those 53 plays are your only real under center volume and you want them fresh.

Pull Goal Line Offense inside the three yard line and nowhere else, since its single set and 12 plays with 23 personnel will not survive repeated exposure.

Keep Pistol as a one or two call change-up per game out of its single set, and reserve the Hail Mary sets including Goal Post for end of half or end of game only.
