Corner Post out of Pistol Ace 12 personnel shows a two-man route concept on the right side paired with an outlet on the left. The outside receiver on the right runs a deep post while the inline TE next to him releases on a corner route, creating a natural high-low stretch on the deep half defender. On the backside, the receiver runs a deep in/dig crosser underneath while the TE stacked left runs a corner route as well, giving the quarterback a mirrored read if the play side gets taken away. This is a man beater designed to exploit single high safety looks, with the primary read starting on the post and corner combo to the play side before working back across the field to the backside crosser.
Pre-snap, check safety alignment: a single high safety in the middle of the field signals Cover 1 or Cover 3, both of which this play is designed to exploit with the post route. Watch the cornerback technique at the line, if you see press man alignment on the outside receiver running the post that confirms man coverage and increases the likelihood of a big play down the field. Post-snap, key the flat defender or curl to flat zone player to the play side, if he sinks with the corner route the underneath window opens for a check down or the post has more room to work against single coverage. Two deep safeties pre-snap is a red flag, this alignment usually signals Cover 2 or Cover 4 which can bracket both the post and corner routes, so be ready to hot route to the backside crosser or check down quickly. Watch for a lurking linebacker or user-controlled defender sitting in the middle of the field, a disciplined Cover 3 sky safety can rob the post route if the quarterback holds the ball too long.
Identify single high safety pre-snap since this play thrives against Cover 1 and Cover 3 where the post can split the safety and the corner route occupies the flat or curl defender.
Use motion or a hot route on the backside TE to convert his corner into a flat route if you diagnose Cover 2 or Cover 4, giving you a quick zone beater option underneath.
Hold your eyes on the post route first, if the safety bites hard on the corner route to that side throw the post immediately for a big chunk gain.
Pair this play with Skinny Posts or Quick Slants in your play-calling sequence to condition the defense into sitting on shorter routes, then hit Corner Post for the explosive shot play.
Best called on down and distance situations of second or third and long, or as a first down shot play when you have identified man coverage on consecutive snaps.
