Singleback Trips takes the standard 11 personnel look and stacks three receivers to one side with a single back behind the quarterback, leaving the tight end and one isolated receiver to balance the formation. That strength side overload is the whole point: instead of the symmetrical spacing you get from Singleback Wing or Doubles, you force the defense to declare its coverage rotation before the snap. Count the defenders over the trips side and you instantly know whether you are seeing Cover 3 buzz, quarters with a hard bracket, or man coverage with a safety cheating over. The backside isolated receiver becomes your primary matchup weapon because most zone shells leave him with a single defender and no help.
Read the box first: if the defense stays base with two linebackers over the trips side and a light interior, check to HB Power O or HB Stretch and make them commit numbers back inside.
Against single high, live on the Sft Mtn PA Dagger Crosser and PA Y Glance calls because the dig and glance windows open exactly where the vacated hook defender used to be.
When you see press man across the board, forget the trips side entirely and work the isolated receiver on X Corner Post or a hot routed fade, especially with a speed mismatch in the slot to backside alignment.
Use Bubble Screen and RPO Stretch Alert Lookie as your blitz punishers on second and medium, then go back to the deeper play action shots once the opponent starts sitting in coverage.
On third and six to nine, Stick and Curl Combo give you reliable sticks against zone, and you can hot route the number three trips receiver to a drag to create a built in man beater underneath.
