Tight Doubles is Singleback's condensed 11 personnel look: the TE aligns tight to one side with a receiver stacked or slotted just outside him, while the opposite side gets a similarly compressed two receiver surface. Instead of stretching the defense sideline to sideline like Wing Trio or Doubles wide sets, Tight Doubles pulls everything inside the numbers, which shrinks throwing lanes for the defense but also shrinks the space defenders have to cover. That compression is the whole point: it forces zone defenders to sort overlapping route stems and forces man defenders into traffic where crossers and shallow routes create natural rubs without you ever having to motion a receiver.
The set runs a legitimate two way concept sheet. HB Inside Zone and HB Dive give you the downhill gap and zone runs that a tight formation should produce, because both tight surfaces mean extra bodies in the box and no need to block a defender aligned in the far flat. PA Boot sells that run action and gets the QB moving off the spot with a high low read to the boot side, which is the cleanest way to punish an aggressive user who is flying to the run key. Bingo Cross, Shallow Cross, and Under are the passing backbone: all three attack the middle of the field with mesh style crossing action, drag and dig combos, and a deep threat clearing the top.
Because the alignment is compressed, your best receiver ends up in a slot or stacked position with a two way go against off man, and the TE releases from a tight alignment where he can be hot routed on a seam or slant before a nickel defender can widen. The tags tell you how to build the personnel: SLWR for the slot mismatch on crossers, Power HB and 3DRB depending on whether you want inside zone punch or a back who can flex out and win in space, and Gadget for the athlete you can align in the tight surface and let run away from a linebacker in man.
Read the shell before the snap: if the defense shows two high safeties with off coverage, run Bingo Cross or Under to attack the intermediate middle, and if you see single high with press, motion or hot route the slot receiver on a slant or corner for the two way go.
Use HB Inside Zone and HB Dive early in the game to force the linebackers to sit downhill, then run PA Boot from the same look and let the run action clear the flat defender to the boot side.
On third and medium, Shallow Cross is your reliable man beater, but hot route the tight end to a curl or flat if the defense shows a blitz look so you have a quick answer under the pressure.
Slide protect toward the side the extra edge rusher is showing and block the HB to the opposite side, because a compressed pocket collapses fast when you leave both edges unaccounted for.
Vary the formation flip so your best route runner is not always in the same tight surface, and let the Gadget or SLWR tag dictate which side you attack against a linebacker in man coverage.
