PA Sprint HB Flat is a play-action sprint out concept from Singleback Tight Doubles that fakes the handoff before rolling the quarterback outside the pocket for a boot style attack. The route combo typically features a flat route from the backfield paired with an out or corner breaking route from the outside receiver, giving you a high low read to the flat side of the sprint out. This is a man beater against aggressive linebackers who bite on the run fake, and the primary read progression starts with the flat route as the checkdown and works up to the deeper breaking route if the corner sinks or a linebacker widens to take away the flat.
Defensive Reads
Look for linebackers stepping up hard on the run fake since that opens the flat route immediately for an easy pitch and catch Identify single high safety shells like Cover 3 or Cover 1 since the sprint out puts stress on the flat defender and the deep half is often vacated on that side Watch the flat defender specifically, if he sits and stays home in Cover 2 or Cover 4 you need to work the deeper route on the sprint side Beware of contain blitzes or edge pressure from the sprint out side since the quarterback has less room to escape once he commits to the roll Cover 3 with a hard sprint side buzz rotation or aggressive quarter quarter half shells with disciplined corners defending the flat can shut this play down if defenders stay patient

Sequence this after a few Mtn HB Duo or HB Inside Zone runs to bait linebackers into crashing down, then hit the flat route wide open on the edge they vacated
