Breakdown

Jet Sweep Wk out of Singleback Tight Doubles is a perimeter run play that puts your wing receiver in motion pre-snap and hands the ball off in stride for an outside edge attack. The blocking scheme pulls the play side tackle and tight end to seal the edge while the wing motion man takes the toss and presses the sideline behind lead blockers. This is a pure run play designed to punish overpursuing linebackers and light box counts, with the primary read being the edge defender or run support corner: if he crashes down, cut it up inside the alley, and if he stays home, trust your blockers and stay outside.

Defensive Reads

Check the play side outside linebacker or defensive end for crash tendencies, if he squeezes down hard on the motion the cutback lane inside will open up. Identify the corner leverage before the snap, outside leverage corners get beat easy while inside leverage or press corners can trigger fast enough to blow this up. Look for a linebacker flowing hard with the jet motion pre-snap, that is a sign of man match or aggressive run fits and you should expect an early tackle attempt at the line. Watch for a user controlled defender spying the edge or sitting in the alley, that is the primary threat to this concept and will force you to cut it up early. Cover 3 and Cover 1 with aggressive run support shut this down quickly, while Cover 2 shells with slower flowing linebackers tend to open the edge lane you need.

Usage Tips

Use pre-snap motion to bait linebackers into flowing hard and check the defensive numbers in the box before the snap, if you count six or fewer defenders in the box this play hits fast. Watch corner alignment on the play side, a corner playing outside leverage or backpedaling in soft zone gives your jet sweep man a clean angle to the sideline. Call this on early downs in base personnel to keep defenses honest, then pair it with HB Inside Zone or Mtn HB Duo from the same set so linebackers cannot key on wing motion and sell out to the edge. Against aggressive defensive ends or edge blitzers, run this away from their alignment since the design already accounts for outside contain. If the defense starts overloading the edge after seeing this look once, switch to Zone Fake Jet Wk to use the same motion as a false read and attack the interior instead.
