Overview

Cowboys Offense and NFL Live Cowboys Offense are functionally the same playbook. They share all 612 plays and differ by zero sets, so every formation, set and concept below applies equally to both cuts. Pick whichever one your mode surfaces and do not expect any schematic edge from one over the other.

At 612 plays across 7 formations and 41 sets, Cowboys Offense is larger than 86% of the game's 64 offensive team playbooks, and its weight sits firmly in the gun. Shotgun carries 336 plays (55%) across 20 sets, making it the core of the book. Singleback adds another 147 plays (24%) across 10 sets. The under center and backfield-heavy looks are much thinner: I Form at 45 plays, Pistol at 39, Strong I at 30, Goal Line Offense at 12 in a single set, and a 3 play Hail Mary package. Roughly four of every five snaps you can call come from a one back look.

The game plan this supports is a spread passing attack built on quick game and crossing concepts: Drag, Crosser, Flat, Spot, Hitch, Slant and Post, plus dedicated Cover 3 Beater calls. Play Action, Motion and Block and Release tags let you run that attack from heavier looks too. Personnel range is unusually wide, running from 20 and 11 all the way to 13, 22 and 23. That lets you pair a gun-first identity with a real downhill package built on calls like FB Dive, 0 1 Trap and 26 Duo Alert X Lookie when the box gets light.

Scheme Fit

Cowboys Offense wants an accurate, quick-release quarterback who can read Drag, Crosser and Spot concepts from the gun, backed by shifty slot receivers and a tight end who can win on option and flat routes. A downhill runner and a capable fullback make the thin I Form, Strong I and Goal Line packages viable in short yardage. It fits a player who prefers a spread, rhythm-based passing attack but still wants a credible heavy personnel changeup to force defensive subs.

Strengths

  • Shotgun depth is elite: 336 plays across 20 sets means you can hit Drag, Crosser, Spot and Slant concepts from many different alignments, so opponents cannot key a single set to diagnose the call.
  • Singleback's 147 plays across 10 sets give you a second full passing base with Play Action and Block and Release tags, letting you run the same quick game from a tighter look that holds linebackers in the box.
  • Personnel range from 20 and 11 through 13, 22 and 23 lets you force defensive subs, then use formation subs and motion to exploit a nickel or dime front with heavy run looks.
  • Dedicated Cover 3 Beater calls combined with Post, Hitch and Flat concepts give you built-in answers to the most common zone shell without needing to hot route every snap.
  • The book's size (larger than 86% of offensive team playbooks) lets you build a deep audible package where each formation carries a distinct man beater, zone beater, run and play action call.

Weaknesses

  • With 55% of the book in Shotgun and 79% in one back looks, a smart opponent can sit in light boxes and pass-first coverage, trusting that your heavy formations are too thin to punish them repeatedly.
  • I Form (45 plays), Strong I (30) and Pistol (39) only offer 2 to 3 sets each, so your downhill run game becomes predictable fast once a defender recognizes the handful of alignments.
  • Goal Line Offense is a single set with 12 plays, leaving very few answers inside the 2 yard line and making it easy for a user-controlled defender to guess the call.
  • The Hail Mary package is just 3 plays across 2 sets, so end of half desperation situations offer almost no variation for a defense to account for.
  • Because the short concept list is dominated by Drag, Crosser, Flat and Slant, defenses that squat underneath with a user-controlled linebacker can clog the book's favorite throwing lanes.

Usage Tips

Build your base audible package in Shotgun: keep a Cross Drag or Crosser concept for man, a Cover 3 Beater for zone, a Spot or Flat quick game call, and a Shotgun run to keep the box honest on 1st and 10.

On 2nd and medium, drop into Singleback and lean on Play Action and Block and Release calls, since the run threat from a one back set freezes second level defenders better than a pure gun look.

Save I Form and Strong I for 3rd and short and 4th and 1, calling FB Dive or 0 1 Trap when the defense stays in nickel against your 21 or 22 personnel.

Use Pistol on early downs as a changeup, pairing 26 Duo Alert X Lookie style calls with a quick play action shot to punish linebackers who flow hard to the run.

Inside the 5, alternate your lone Goal Line Offense set with a Singleback or Strong I play action call so the defense cannot sell out on your 12 play goal line package.
