Defensive Reads

Cover 3 and Cover 4 shells with aggressive flow to the run are the easiest coverages to exploit here since the play action freezes second level defenders long enough to create the crossing window. Use this on early downs like first or second and short to medium yardage when the defense is keyed up to stop the run, since the jet fake carries more weight and linebackers will flow harder.

Check the safety alignment before the snap. If you see two high safeties sitting deep, the play action fake will not move them much, so lean on the underneath crosser as your primary answer instead of forcing the vertical shot.

If the defense shows single high or a robber look, trust the vertical route since the jet fake often pulls the extra defender toward the motion and opens the deep boundary throw.

Pair this call with straight Jet Sweep or Jet HB Slash earlier in a series so the defense respects the actual jet motion, which makes the fake in Zone Fake Jet far more effective at freezing linebackers.

Hot route the shallow crosser into a deeper dig if you are getting a soft zone shell, since that adjustment gives you a second window against Tampa 2 or Cover 3 defenders sinking too fast.
