Breakdown

Jet PA Power starts with jet motion across the backfield to sell the sweep before the QB fakes the handoff off play action power blocking. Off the fake, the playside TE runs a deep vertical seam while the outside receiver on that side stems up the sideline on a corner or go route, stacking a two man vertical stretch on one half of the field. The backside receiver runs a quick out breaking route underneath while the motion man releases on a shallow drag/out to the opposite flat, giving the QB a checkdown away from the play action flow. This is a play-action shot play designed to hit man coverage on the vertical seam or the sideline route, with the primary read being the TE seam first, then working to the outside vertical route, and finally checking down to the drag route away from the fake.

Defensive Reads

Watch for safeties crashing down on the jet motion before the snap, if both safeties bite toward the motion side you have a clean throwing window on the vertical routes away from the fake. Key the flow of the linebackers after the play fake, in man coverage they will often carry the TE seam route which opens throwing lanes underneath if you have a checkdown option. Identify user controlled defenders sitting in the middle of the field, a lurking linebacker or safety can jump the seam route so be ready to reset to the outside vertical instead. Cover 3 with a hard flat defender can take away the drag route to the motion side, so know that outlet may be covered before committing to it as a checkdown. Zone coverage with two deep safeties tends to squeeze the vertical routes, so be patient and let the receiver work into the open zone rather than forcing a throw into a closing window.

Usage Tips

Use this on early downs like first or second and medium to keep defenses honest against the run heavy Wing Slot personnel group.

Check the safety alignment before the snap, if you see two high safeties bail into a deep half shell after the jet motion, prioritize the seam route since it settles in the void behind the linebackers.

Against man coverage, work the vertical route up the sideline first since it isolates the corner with a nine route look off play action.

Pair this with HB Power or PA Power O earlier in a series so the defense has already reacted to the same backfield action, making the play fake on Jet PA Power even more believable.

If the defense shows blitz off the jet motion, get the ball out quickly to the drag route away from the fake since it is the fastest developing outlet.
