PA Y-poco is a play-action shot play out of Singleback Wing Slot 12 personnel that hinges on the tight end running a post corner route to attack Cover 2 and other split safety shells. The play action fake with the running back holds the linebackers and safeties for a beat, giving the Y post corner time to break outside the safety's zone before the corner route settles into the void. Primary read progression starts with the post corner from the Y, moves to the underneath crossers or flat routes as the second read, and comes back to the checkdown or dump off if the deep shot is not there.

Defensive Reads

Look for two deep safeties splitting the field evenly before the snap, that Cover 2 shell is the primary target for the post corner route since the corner has to squeeze both the flat and the deep third. Watch the flat defender and corner leverage at the snap, if the corner sinks too fast the window opens underneath, if he stays flat footed the post corner has room over the top. Hot route the backside receiver into a quick out or slant if you diagnose man coverage before the snap so you have a rhythm throw ready if the shot is covered.

Take the shot only when you have play clock to let the double move develop, if you are rushed at the snap check down immediately to the flat or backfield release instead of forcing the post corner.
