PA Y Corner uses play-action out of Singleback Wing Slot personnel (12) to hold the linebackers before releasing a four man route concept. The Y (tight end) runs the namesake corner route from the slot area, breaking outside behind the underneath zones, while the backside receiver runs a deep dig that sits over the middle at intermediate depth. The two receivers on the left side clear the underneath area with a vertical seam and a wheel style route, and the running back leaks out to the flat as a checkdown after selling the run fake. This is a play-action zone beater designed to attack the seams vacated by linebackers biting on the run fake, with the primary read progression starting at the Y corner route, moving to the backside dig, and finishing with the checkdown to the flat.

Defensive Reads

Identify Cover 3 or Cover 4 shells pre-snap since the corner route exploits the seam between the deep third defender and the underneath flat defender. Watch linebacker depth at the snap, if they bite hard on the run fake the middle dig route will have a wide open throwing lane. Beware disguised Cover 1 or Cover 0 man pressure looks, since blitzing defenses can beat the play fake and get to the quarterback before the corner route develops. Key the flat defender post-snap, if he sinks with the corner route the checkdown to the running back becomes the easy answer versus zone drops. This play struggles against aggressive user controlled lurk defenders sitting in the intermediate middle zone, since they can undercut the dig route and jump the throwing lane.

Usage Tips

Sell the play fake by holding the snap button briefly to maximize linebacker freeze before releasing your route read.

Look for two high safety shells pre-snap since the corner route can split the deep half if the corner sinks with the vertical release on the outside.

Hot route the backside dig into a deeper post if you see single high safety rotation to attack the vacated middle of the field.

Use this on early downs (1st and 10 or 2nd and medium) when defenses expect run based on personnel and formation tendencies.
