Jet HB Slash is a jet motion run play out of Singleback Wing Slot 12 personnel that hands the ball to the HB on a quick slash run behind the jet motion action. The diagram shows the jet man motioning across the formation before the snap while the HB takes the handoff and cuts downhill through the point of attack, reading the interior blocking as the line sets up run lanes to either side of the center. This is a run play designed to attack aggressive run fits and gap integrity, with the primary read being the HB identifying whether to hit the play side gap or bounce backside based on how the second level linebackers flow with the jet motion.

Defensive Reads

Key the jet motion defender pre-snap, if a defender fails to adjust or mirror the motion you likely have a numbers advantage to that side. Look for slanting defensive linemen or crashing edge defenders, as this play can get stuffed if the offensive line loses the initial point of attack before the HB can read the cutback.

Usage Tips

Use the jet motion pre-snap to force the defense to declare its run fit assignments before the snap, this is your first read on whether you are getting man or zone run support.

Run this on early downs in normal run and pass distances like 1st and 10 or 2nd and short to keep defenses honest and set up your play-action shots later in the drive.

If linebackers flow hard with the jet motion man, hold the HB and let the natural cutback lane develop behind the flow.

Pair this with Jet PA Boot Y Leak or PA Jet Sweep from the same set so the defense has to respect both the run action and the boot off identical jet motion, creating conflict for flowing linebackers and edge defenders.

Against aggressive nano blitz calls, this play can be a great counter since the extra gap created by the jet man forces defenders to widen out of blitz lanes.
