PA Rollout out of Singleback Wing Slot 12 personnel sells the run fake then rolls the QB to the right edge with three route options attacking every level of the field. The outside receiver runs a corner-post that clears deep, the inline TE runs a deep out breaking to the flag, and the backside receiver crosses the field on a deep dig that settles behind the linebackers. A checkdown swings to the flat underneath the rollout while the fullback or extra TE chips before releasing on a short crossing route, giving the QB a rollout scheme that stresses zone defenders horizontally and vertically. This is a play-action pass designed to beat zone coverage by putting flat, intermediate, and deep defenders in conflict, with the primary read starting on the deep out to the flag and working down to the crossing route and flat man.

Defensive Reads

Watch for a hard flat defender crashing the run fake, that opens the deep out and corner route behind him for an explosive gain. Identify Cover 3 or Cover 4 shells pre-snap since the deep out and dig combo is built to split the flat and hook defenders in those zones. If the defense shows a two high safety look with a sky cheat, expect the corner route to be capped and lean on the underneath crossing route instead. Post-snap, key the middle linebacker's drop, if he sinks hard to the dig you have a window to hit the flat or checkdown before the rollout collapses. Man coverage with a blitz is the biggest threat here since the QB has to reset on the move, so recognize man leverage on the outside receiver pre-snap and be ready to throw off script to the checkdown.

Usage Tips

Use this on early downs in run heavy personnel counts to keep linebackers honest on the play fake before they sit in coverage. Check the safety alignment pre-snap, if you see two high safeties sitting soft, the deep out to the corner has a bigger window since the flat defender has to respect the run action. Roll the QB to the play side and use the rollout mechanics to buy time, resetting your eyes from the deep out to the dig route if the corner jumps the flag route. On third and medium, hot route the flat receiver to a quick out if you see man coverage so the QB has an instant answer against blitz pressure.
