Defensive Reads

Watch for scrape exchange technique from defenses that have seen misdirection before, if the backside end sits and squeezes instead of chasing, the cutback lane disappears. Identify if the defense is in a run blitz or crashing edge look pre-snap, aggressive downhill blitzes can actually get sealed easier by the down blocks. Post-snap, track the user linebacker or safety for a lurk and fill technique in the alley, a smart user player will sit on the misdirection instead of biting. This run struggles against gap sound defenses with disciplined edge containment and linebackers trained to read guard blocking flow rather than backfield motion.
Usage Tips
Run this after establishing outside zone or jet sweep looks so linebackers have already keyed on fast flow to the perimeter, making the misdirection hit harder.
Use it on early downs (1st and 10 or 2nd and medium) when defenses are still reading run flow instead of sitting back in obvious passing sets.
Check the linebacker depth pre-snap, if they are stacked tight to the box and flowing hard on jet or fly motion in previous reps, this play exploits their overpursuit.
Pair it in a play-action sequence with PA Jet Sweep or Zone Fake Jet to keep the defense honest and disguise your run tendencies from the same formation.
Avoid calling this against defenses that are staying home and reading mesh points patiently, since disciplined linebackers can sit and fill the cutback lane.
